We are looking to hire a competent, hardworking nurse registered with Dubai Health Authority. Priorexperience in a school or pediatric clinic is preferred.
The school nurse is directly responsible to the school doctor. In order to assist in establishing a healthyand safe school environment for students and staff, the School Nurse provides the following services:
Being available throughout the school day (7:45-16:30 hrs)
To administer appropriate first aid and emergency care.
To deal with students and staff who may be unwell.
To dispense (when deemed appropriate) medications as requested in writing by parents.
To liaise with and advise parents regarding their children’s illnesses.
Controlling, and thereby protecting the school population from contagious diseases by:
Screening the students’ health story
Screening the students’ immunization records as supplied by parents
Recommending necessary immunization as required
Ensuring that a student is cleared by a physician to return to school after having had a contagiousdisease
Alerting teachers and parents regarding the identification and control of common childhoodcontagious diseases
Checking students for signs of disease or infestation and ensuring treatment is received wherenecessary
Providing a medical perspective, so that learning problems of students can be betterinterpreted, by:
Maintaining an accurate, up-to date health record on every students with special attention toallergies, physical handicaps and specific limitations, which may impinge on a student’sperformance at school.
Advising and liaising with teachers regarding individual student’s health conditions.
Acting as an information resource for parents and students
Maintaining up-to- date technology in relation to records etc.
Conducting vision and screening with all new students, upon the request of teachers and others,and in collaboration with members of the Department of Health on all enrolled students
Participating in referrals by teachers for specific medical diagnostic work when needed
Dealing with emergency services staff and emergency doctors
Working with the department of health and school doctor
Providing support for parents when necessary, concerning medical conditions, of students.
Participating in maintaining and improving safety and health concerns at the school by:
Maintaining and updating student health records.
Reviewing all school accidents and notifying, as appropriate, either the Elementary Principal, orthe Secondary Principal, of serious accidents and identified safety hazards
Providing non-prescription medicines and medical supplies in the Nurse’s office, and maintainingadequate First Aid supplies as required throughout the school.
Being available as a resource person for consultation:
On matters of safety, particularly within Athletic and Science programs.
With teachers in areas of Health Education and other health related matters
With the Secondary Principal in dealing with local governmental and health authorities in health – related matters
Maintaining a list of currently recommended doctors and dentists for UAS families and staffmembers, particularly those new in Dubai
Keeping up-to- date with related medical developments recognizing that basic and adultmedical problems are unlikely to change dramatically from year to year.
