We combine industry expertise with innovative technology to deliver critical information to leading decision makers in the financial and risk, legal, tax and accounting, intellectual property and science and media markets, powered by the world's most trusted news organization.Reuters is looking for a driven, competitive, Arabic-speaking correspondent to cover general news in the Gulf and provide back-up to our financial, energy and company news reporting teams. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a passion to tell the story of a region unsettled by war in Yemen, beset by competition between regional heavyweights Iran and Saudi Arabia, and struggling with social strains accentuated by economic slowdown at a time of flagging oil prices. The successful candidate will handle a diverse array of stories that cut across energy, finance, investment, diplomacy and religion. They should have the stamina to work newsdesk shifts where they will write stories contributed by colleagues and monitor news on a variety of digital and traditional media channels. Working with colleagues around the region, the correspondent will explain what is happening to our international audience in a clear and accurate manner, both through spot and exclusive news and in analysis pieces. An eye for nuance will be essential when reporting stories about the increasingly assertive and activist foreign policies of Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, their evolving relationship with longtime ally the United States and their contest for influence with Iran. While Arabic will be a key skill, this must be combined with a nose for news and an appreciation of the ability of news to affect global and regional markets. The job will be based in Dubai. The successful candidate will report to Gulf Bureau Chief William Maclean
QUALIFICATIONS: - At least five years reporting experience - Proven track record of cultivating sources and breaking news - Experience monitoring news in real time- Working proficiency in spoken and written Arabic - A willingness to work in hostile environments would be an advantage, as would experience in handling economic news.
