Al Wasl formed the first Ultras group in the UAE, Ultras Junoon. Although they excel in all sports their football is legendary among fans. The attractive style of play has convinced many fans that despite not being the most successful club in terms of title wins, Al Wasl is indeed one of the best football club in UAE history. They gained fame in 2011 when the legendary Argentine Diego Maradona was appointed to coach the team. Following a somewhat successful spell Maradona was sacked in 2012 due to disagreements with the owners. Due to Al-Wasl's impressive performance in the Continental Tournaments last century (5 wins and one loss), it has been named 'UAE's Club of the 20th century'.
