Known as the “Garden City of the Gulf”, Abu Dhabi, the thriving metropolitan capital of the UAE beckons visitors into its melting pot of international cultures, styles and traditions.
The UAE is made up of 7 Emirates on the eastern seaboard of the Arabian Peninsula and a destination which will surprise you. It is very safe and very liberal. The country is mainly a desert but due to cultivation and enterprise, much of it is green. In the hinterland, you will even find waterfalls and freshwater lakes.
The capital, Abu Dhabi, is the largest city and one of the world’s most modern. The Corniche is a spectacular waterfront stretching for miles with excellent beaches. Swimming is available at most hotels here on private beaches. Abu Dhabi is also a great place to shop with no tax.
On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel and the rest of the day is at leisure. The following morning, enjoy a tour of the sights and sounds of Abu Dhabi. You will see modern architecture, shimmering skyscrapers, villas and palaces. Start with a vist to the impressive Grand Mosque - named after His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late President of the UAE. It is one of the largest mosques in the world, able to accommodate more than 30 000 worshippers. The tour will continue to the Abu Dhabi Heritage Village showing life before modernization including lush gardens, model souks, Bedouin encampments and craftsmen at work. Then drive along the spectacular Corniche for superb views of the city’s skyline.
The following day is departure but if time allows, consider staying on as there is so much more to experience in Abu Dhabi.
